Manassas, Va., June 22, 2010 — Jonathan Arehart, CEO and Founder of Cavendo Corporation, will serve as chair of the 2011 March for Babies in Prince William County. March for Babies, formerly WalkAmerica, is the premier fundraising event for the March of Dimes.
On behalf of Cavendo Corporation, Mr. Arehart will lead the campaign to raise awareness and gain support for March of Dimes research and community programs to help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
“We are honored to have Jonathan Arehart lead the way,” said Curt Leger, Northern Virginia Division board chair of the March of Dimes Maryland National Capital Area Chapter. “When our leaders publicly stand with a cause they support, they show the whole community the value of volunteer service and community involvement.”
Mr. Arehart has agreed to help raise $30,000 for the Prince William County March for Babies, which will be held in April at the Harris Pavilion. Mr. Arehart will recruit additional leaders from local businesses and corporations to help achieve this goal.
“I’m serving as the 2011 chair for March for Babies because I believe our children’s health is a top priority,” said Mr. Arehart. “All babies should have the chance to be born healthy."
The most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today is premature birth. It affects more than half a million babies each year, with the number growing every day. In 2009 the March of Dimes issued a Report Card on Premature Birth, giving the nation a “D” and the State of Virginia a “D.” Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected by it.
In Northern Virginia, the March of Dimes helps moms and babies through programs of research, advocacy, health education and community services. Local grantees include the Manassas Midwifery and Woman’s Health Center.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
